A poem for all my bipolar friends.
WHAT TO SAY ON A BIPOLAR DAY
“How are you?” asks Ms. May.
You know she’s meaning: How are you feeling?
And what’s your outlook this day?
The usual answer, whether or not true,
“I’m well (or fine, or good) and you?”
But what we’d say if we were frank
“I’m ecstatic! Paranoid! or (fill in the blank)“
I’m bipolar, you see, so feelings are extreme for me
well (or fine, or good)
when my mood’s been hijacked in a coup.
Most people are well (or good or fine) on any regular day,
their outlook’s not hijacked by mood runaway.
If you’re bipolar on the other hand,
your feelings and outlook take their own stand
and there you are all tossed about in a manic storm.
It’s madness, no doubt!
